3 Simple & Obvious Reminders

I was working on a Sunday when I felt the need to write 3 things down on my giant Post-It note pad. (Please excuse this view of my imperfect guest room / office.)

  1. Showing Up is More Important Than (almost) Anything Else

  2. I Can Figure It Out

  3. Imperfect Action Gets Results

This not-so-impressive-but-still-important list came to me at the end of a few hours of struggling to get motivated. Struggling because hey, sometimes it’s hard to work on your business on a Sunday and go back to your day job on Monday. But I stayed at it and these lessons came to me.

1. Showing Up Is More Important Than (almost) Anything Else

I keep learning this over and over. In business and in life in general, things happen for me  when I show up and put myself out there. Now “show up” and “put yourself out there” are vague, so what this actually means for me right now is to keep posting/emailing/talking/connecting.

2. I Can Figure It Out

There was this thing about MailChimp that I couldn’t figure it out, and I was feeling a resigned failure over the dumb thing. I was drowning in the “Noooooo I cannnn’t.” And then I took 10 minutes to Google the thing and I DID figure it out, and it felt good to know I could do that. It was a good reminder that it’s possible to figure out stuff even if I don’t wanna or it’s frustrating.

3. Imperfect Action Gets Results

This reminder came from social media. I posted. It was imperfect. It was too short, it didn’t have the right hashtags, there was no strategy. I wasn’t promoting anything. And I meant to post on IG but actually posted it to FB. And almost immediately I got a response from someone wanting to learn more about my business. Weird right? Turned out this was WAY better than all the times I’ve fretted over making something perfect, which actually just keeps me paralyzed from taking action.

These reminders are so simple and obvious that it feels ridiculous posting about this. But I know that sometimes it helps me to be reminded of the simple and obvious things, so I hope it will help you too.

What about you? What simple and obvious truths have you been reminded of recently?
