What The Princess Bride Taught Me About Elevator Pitches
Sorry. Well, #sorrynotsorry friends, I couldn’t resist. I saw this going around the internet and had to share it.
I know, I know, it’s just a joke. And while it’s hilarious...it really got me thinking about elevator pitches. Because there’s almost nothing that compares to this one.
Here’s what I realized about this killer (ha!) introduction:
Inigo speaks with clarity. He is 100% clear in his communication. There is no question about who he is, what he is going to do, and why.
Inigo is memorable. Anyone who has ever watched this movie will never forget this introduction.
And when it comes right down to it, aren’t these exactly the two elements that should exist in every good elevator pitch? You should always communicate clearly and be memorable.
And ultimately, the goal is that the right people will remember you. Hopefully, it’s not because you’ve backed them into a corner with a death threat (I mean, we can really only take this analogy so far, my friends), but because they understand what you do and because they remember who you are and how you make them feel.
Now, this doesn’t mean that other people need to memorize your introduction (after all, that’s your job), but they’ll understand it in the moment and they’ll remember you as the person “who definitely seems like she can help me de-clutter my home,” or “who I should hire to handle my recruiting” or who can “help me reach my goals.”
If creating an awesome elevator pitch has been on your to-do list, but you just don’t know where to start, and you’d like some help crafting it so you can actually feel good about introducing yourself, boy have I got some great news for you. My Four Week Program - Get the Words Right! - will help you create your killer elevator pitch and a whole lot more!
After four sessions, you’ll be able to clearly articulate:
✓ your ideal role / client profile
✓ your elevator pitch
✓ your origin story
✓ your brand words
Can you imagine what that would be like for you? You’d know what type of job (or clients) you’re going after, you’d be able to easily and confidently introduce yourself to strangers, you’d be able to tell how & why you got to where you are today, and you’d have carefully chosen brand words that would be your compass, guiding you where you need to go.
I’ve got just two spots left at the introductory price. Once those are gone, it’s going up by $100. And by the way, if you’d like to customize this program (for example, swap out one or two of the topics for something customized), let me know! Let’s book a call and figure it out.
I’ll work with you to find the right words so you’ll be confident and you’ll be able to actually enjoy telling people who you are and what you do.
Be clear, be memorable. Be like Inigo.
And now, you’ve got the perfect excuse to go look up The Princess Bride on Netflix, and watch it tonight. And if you don’t know about The Princess Bride… I’m impressed that you’re still reading. You should definitely watch it too. And report back, post haste. Naturally, the response I’m hoping to hear from you is...
